Located at the corner of State and Randolph, the Gene Siskel Film Center, named in tribute of film critic Gene Siskel, is being visited by the Master of Suspense for a short while. From January 4 to 28, the works of legendary film director Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) are gracing the screen of the theater.

As a director, Hitchcock's legacy and influence is immeasurable -- the impact he left on the genre of mystery, suspense, and horror is incontestable.

For those unacquainted with Hitchcock, simply know that without him the existence of such films such as “The Usual Suspects” or “What Lies Beneath” would be impossible. For a man that once claimed, "Some films are slices of life, mine are slices of cake" -- the Gene Siskel Film Center is offering 13 slabs of Hitchcock cake all in 35mm prints also known as vault prints. And as an adding frosting, Tippi Hedren, the actress from the 1963 film "The Birds" is making an appearance to answer questions on Saturday, January 26.

It's enough to drive the smallest film fanatic psycho.

Hitchcock prided himself in his ability to "play the audience like a piano"-- such films as “Psycho” or “Strangers On A Train,” unfold like a sink--and-hook game with Hitchcock slowly luring the audience into his complex and intricate plots.

Hitchcock possessed such acute insight into human nature and interaction. It gave him the ability to delve deep into the psychological depths of our fears. It's no wonder why shower rates dropped drastically after watching the now-famous murder scene in "Psycho."

Arguably the best of Hitchcock’s films worked at both the physical eye candy level as well as a pathological level. No other director since Hitchcock has had the ability to spin rich tales of mystery, deceit, suspense, and comedy with such mastery. The trademarks of Hitchcock have become well known, including his line-traced profile and the recurring cameo appearances in his films.
